Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: Rules:: Fire markers Caladen's Crossing

The Quest Guide is not clear to me about the amount of fire markers in the quest Caladens’s Crossing:

Burning the town
-Must both fire markers of a tile being face up for receiving an fatigue token or just one?

Extinguishing the fire
-When a hero with bucket douse the flames how many fire markers are put face down (or discarded): one or both red objectives tokens per time?

I’m looking forward to your answers.

At first I got excited thinking that UKGE was an acronym for a new Descent product I hadn't heard about. Then I googled it.

It is important to understand in this quest that under no circumstance will 1 fire token be faceup while the other is facedown. They are always flipped together. The inky reason why only 1 token would be facup or facedown is because the overlord discarded 1 token with 4 accumulated fatigue tokens

So when the tokens are face up, the tile receives 1 fatigue token.

When the heroes douse the flames, all tokens are flipped facedown or discarded. This means all 2 when there are 2, or just the 1 if the overlord has already discarded one. The heroes will receive 2 villager tokens when both tokens are discarded and only 1 if only 1 token was discarded (because the overlord discarded the other one).

You gain 1 health, and a brown dice...

The brown dice, I think I understand, while you wear it, you add a brown dice to your defense throw.

The gain 1 health... when is that? You can flip it once per turn or is a passive thing or how do I interpret it?

Hoi Alexander

Thanks!

Your health goes up by one. You have another hit point. You can take one more damage before you are knocked out. However you want to express it.

This is a benefit you have until you sell the card or maybe lose it due to some in-game effect.

Specifically, while it is equipped, treat your Heart (Health) as one higher. If you unequip it and you have damage tokens equal to your new Health value, you are knocked out.

I'd recommended one of the big box expansions because you get the most for your money with them. SoN has its own app campaign which could figure into your decision. I'd suggest checking out the descent wiki and seeing what you like. http://descent2e.wikia.com/wiki/Descent:_Journeys_in_the_Dark_(Second_Edition)_Wiki

I kind of figured that a true single box solution was too good to be true. Methinks I may have to put together a pretty hardcore box organizer solution if I ever want to get this into a single box that isn't the size of a stand up rolling toolbox, lol. Using deep and shallow plano organizers takes care of MOST of the miniatures (the dragons from the base game don't quite fit in the deeper containers, nor do the big dragons from 1e). I've got all the cards in a big box expansion with a broken token card organizer, the tiles all in the original core box, and... Three planos full of miniatures, plus two smaller ones for various tokens.

I suppose that's the flipside of having a miniatures game with so much variety for environments and enemies... It's going to take up room. I've been thinking of some sort of flip file, now that I've been enjoying RtL more, I feel like it could make tile-finding MUCH faster. Anyone else have practical solutions for finding their tiles quickly? With RtL pulling tiles across all expansions, it can be a bit more time consuming to break out each of the grouped bags and yank the appropriate tiles.

I was wondering why it is still mentioned as a 2-5 player game, while with the "Road to Legend" app, (which will take the role of the overload player - similar to mansions of madness), it can be a 1-5 player game...

Am i missing something?

With the RtL app you don't need a DM but you do need a minimum of two heros. That might be why they still list it as 2 player minimum. While it is possible to play with one player controlling two heros I guess. It's people would rather just control one hero. That's what I think at least.

I think it's technically correct, although probably from a different angle.

With the app, you can play solo, but you need to control 2 characters for the app to run.

For the upper range, they're probably including a 5th player to read the app and control the monsters and that type of thing. So, there's 4 heroes max, but a 5th player would have something to do if necessary.

Unlike Mansions of Madness, the app is not integral to the game, thus is can be played without it. What the app does is that it replaces the DM/Controller/GM player with the app, which then drops is down to a 2 to 4 player game (I believe the app does not allow for a fifth player that is not the GM).

Hi! My friends and I just played this game for the first time, and we ended up having an argument about an unclear rule. Player A thinks that your hero's turn ends as soon as your second Action resolves. Player B thinks that if you are able to do something that doesn't require an Action you may do this after your second Action resolves, and before your turn is over.

For Example: A hero playing Syndrael wants to perform this order of tasks on her turn:
Action 1: Move
Action 2: Attack
Heroic Feat (to move away)

Is this legal or not?

A player's turn is over when the player declares that it is over. You can certainly use items or abilities that do not cost an action after you have spent two actions. Your example turn is therefore completely legal. He could also use fatigue tokens to move 4 additional spaces (does not cost an action), then use a stamina potion to regain full stamina in order to spend 4 fatigue tokens to move an additional 4 spaces. Effectively moving 12 more spaces that do not cost an action all before his turn would end.

Just a heads-up, I got a reply from FFG confirming that the activation of all zombies end.

[q=Nathan Hajek, Fantasy Flight Games]Hi Alexander,

Good catch. You are correct, it should be “zombies’ activation.” I’ll throw it in my folder for errata updates.

Thanks!

Q: When a zombie is mutated in the Heirs of blood quest "Army of Dal'Zunm", the quest guide states to: "replace the zombie with a fatigue token and remove all other zombies from the map. Then, place zombies on the cemetery. The zombie's activation immediately ends." Does this mean that the specific activation of the zombie who mutated ends, or does this mean that the activation of all zombies, as a group, ends?
