This is a hard game to review. The game experience can be wildly different between players because there are so many influential variables: did the players play with 2, 3, or 4 heroes? What characters did they chose? What classes? What quests? Are the players equally skilled? Do the hero players collaborate? Do people truly apply the rules accurately? Do the heroes grasp that movement is more important than combat?

All these things are not ancillary; they are surprisingly weighty. It boils down to a learning curve. Descent is not a game that people easily sit down to, play, and have relatively similar experiences to judge whether its for them or not; unfortunately. It's a downside of the game.

The game is tricky because it is streamlined and appears so approachable, but in reality, it punishes the unexpecting gamer.
