The notepad, to me, seems like it was designed specifially to cater to folks that can't leave this game out for a full campaign. Chits of any sort seem simpler and more tangible. Lets the players have something they can trade for something else, rather than just notes in a log.

I'm in the midst of a campaign now and we're not using the notepad at all....seems weird to any of us to need it. The game is set on a table where it won't be disturbed between sessions.
